The edge is roughed out with a router then cleaned up with a spokeshave ~ a small hand plane. The chamfer is also added that way. The top is planed with a regular smoothing plane. I prefer minimal sanding, between first and second coats of natural, food safe oil. Four coats total make it virtually waterproof.
8 hours total, to cut from the clients’ supplied blank, which needed its (synthetic) finish removing.
